That and I think that he’s finally shrugging off that “wardrobe malfunction” from the Super Bowl a few years back. I have to admit that I’ve never really been a fan of hip hop music or anything that Timberlake has been associated with, but there’s something about the guy that does make you want to stand up and listen. Sure, the names have been changed (like “Jesse James Hollywood” is now “Johnny Truelove”) but the story, as they say, remains the same. It wasn’t until I sat down and watched it that I realized it was based off a true story. Alpha is a solid little survival movie that I would recommend, but if you're looking for anything surprising, this movie sadly plays it a little too safe in that regard.About the only thing I knew about Alpha Dog was that it had Justin Timberlake in it. From films like The Book of Eli to movies like From Hell, director Albert Hughes sure knows how to compose a scene. That's not something I was expecting, so I was kind of blown away at times. From time lapse's to beautiful shots of the sunset, to an editing style that only accentuated the filmmaker's visions, Alpha looks incredible. The standout aspect of this film was easily the cinematography in my opinion. Overall, Alpha probably won't be in any discussions when people talk about their favourites of 2018, but there's nothing holding me back from saying that I had a good time at the movies either. I was hoping for a little more depth, but the movie itself was able to be effective enough to enjoy. Just when you think he's in real danger, he escapes fairly easily and the movie goes from start to finish in a very breezy way and at a mere 97 minutes, it really doesn't have much to offer its audience than a feel-good story of a boy surviving on his own. I enjoyed watching the core character played very well by Kodi Smit-McPhee, but the movie itself doesn't allow him to reach his full potential. While it doesn't do anything to hurt the film as a whole, the fact that this movie is so streamlined from beginning to end, makes for an uninteresting viewing experience. This leads me to my biggest negative of the movie. Whatever you may expect to happen from that description, will happen. There really isn't much more to the film than that. They slowly form a friendship that will lead to helping each other survive the harsh realities of life. Left to survive on his own, he meets a wolf who has been separated from his/her pack. This movie follows a young man as he is thrust into hunting with his tribe and is mourned when he is thought to be dead. In the end, this film ended up being a nice mixture of every trailer it put out, so I wasn't too surprised in a negative way. This doesn't bother me, but it should come as a caution for those who are unaware. Despite the Sony-owned studio Columbia Pictures distributing it, there isn't a single line of English dialogue spoken throughout the course of the movie. Upon reflection of its trailers, I came to realize that not a single line of dialogue was spoken in most trailers and that's due to the fact that the film isn't in English. With trailers showcasing this film as an epic with great battle sequences over a year ago, to having the film pushed to almost a year later, to then releasing new trailers that display this film as a family adventure between a boy and his dog, this has been a roller coaster of marketing. Here's why Alpha deserves a little more attention than it's receiving, but also why certain audiences may be turned away upon first glance. That being said, there are a few cautionary aspects that I feel the need to warn about, so my thoughts on the movie as a whole aren't going to be entirely positive. Alpha is among the latest in the survival film category and while it definitely is a movie that plays it safe, it's an effective little movie that I believe some audiences will eat up. Whether it feels dragged out or downright unbelievable in terms of what a human being can really handle, I've only really been blown away by a few of them. In my opinion, survival films are among the most challenging films to pull off.

I also dig the modulation system, of course that is well done, for sure, and is superior to using Max 4 Live LFO’s, etc. The one thing I truly love is the side-by-side grid + arrangement, that’s what I always wanted with Live, but nope. But, you see, I spent enough time with it to really get to know it, both what I like and what it’s failings are. Oh, and there’s the fact that Bitwig’s warping still has shit poor transient detection. it does not invite me to want to program it. Let’s see, I also think the UI of the included instruments are lame. That’s all I need, yet most DAWs don’t allow it, at least not in such a streamlined manner. Live’s browser, I just go to User Library and I can create / move / copy / delete folders and files immediately, and drag and drop anything I want into and out of them. You spend all day clicking little stars everywhere and forgetting to “set as target focus” on the folder you want, ahhhh it’s horrible. And don’t get me started on the ‘collections’ system, what a joke. To me it’s a lot of noise and clutter, not a useful / fast tool for loading stuff. Also, the browser is concept-over-function. I’ve never understood why Bitwig has such sluggish graphics in many areas, and the automation envelopes are the absolute worst. Live, especially now in 10.1 but even before then, is rapid-fire for automation editing. The sluggishness of moving nodes / creating envelopes is just ghastly. Plus, there are simply many things in Bitwig that are, imho, inferior to Ableton – automation, for example. And since I already do a ton of modular design in Voltage Modular (which is fantastic, btw) the Grid is just sort of a fancy bell and whistle that I don’t need. I gave Bitwig a fair shot – even up to the current beta of 3 with the Grid, but Live is much smoother and faster for me. Nah, I vastly prefer Ableton over Bitwig. The fanboys on their forums say it’s my soundcard, even though 3-4 other DAWs on the same system use the same soundcard and have, yup, zero problems… you get the idea. I’ve been through it all with the tech support, and they are useless. In a ‘standard’ size session, when the session is playing back, clicking on a mixer fader or track in the arrangement makes a fuzzy distorted noise and the CPU spikes, every time. I get CPU spikes from synths that never cause issues in Renoise, Ableton or even Reason on the exact same system. It has a lot of features that are missing from most (if not literally all) third party drum sequencer programs, such as the ability to change the grid resolution per pad rather than globally.īut as ever with S1, the performance is shit. You might not have everyone alive all the time, but there's always a full Team Deathmatch going on around each major objective. In Battlefield 2042, death is meaningless and the pace of the game is too fast for revives to matter. Making a couple of revives could tip the scales and secure you a much-needed victory. In previous Battlefield titles, playing as a Medic and reviving your teammates on the objective actually made a huge difference. To make matters worse, there are so many players in any given location that it doesn't really matter what you do when you're playing in a support role. Battlefield games are known for their scale, but EA DICE has taken things a step too far. Cycling between the Capture Points to try and dominate the battlefield is a chore and you'll spend as much time running - or driving - between them as you will in combat.
